Daniel Zielske first studied chimpanzees while working on an undergraduate anthropology degree. His first experiences were with the primates of the Minnesota Zoo. By spending long hours watching the animals he developed his early techniques of recording data about primate behavior. Zielske first worked with chimpanzees while working on his Senior thesis. He worked with the chimpanzees of the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo during the summer of 1989. Mr. Zielske was able to observe first hand the problems that are involved with trying to bring chimpanzees that had been raised by humans into a slightly more natural and well established chimpanzee family group that had been raised under zoo conditions. Mr. Zielske was fortunate enough to work along side of members of the Jane Goodhal Institute, learning from them, Zielske became familiar with the best techniques for observing non-human primate behavior of that time.
