For my memory of the late, great; Douglas Adams.

Date: General Mood Dialogue
11/30/2010 Dention (Arthur Dent)

As this is my first response to this section I felt it was appropriate to take the view point of Douglas' main character; Arthur Dent. Thus my definition: "Dention; from the view point of Arthur Dent." :)

One of the biggest psychosocial problems that Humans face today is the idea that they are at the top of the evolutionary hierarchy. This anthropocentric viewpoint that the greatest, most advanced, form of life in the Universe is that of Homo Sapiens Sapiens, is in my view, rather arrogant. When observed from outside individual consciousness, life can be seen as a collection of momentary images, thoughts, feelings and reflections of experiences by a single consciousness throughout its journey through space/time.

Think back in your own mind. What do your remember from yesterday, last week, last month, last year, or even beyond? When do you stop remembering seeming unimportant events in your life (like what you were thinking at the moment when you were brushing your teeth this morning, yesterday or last month)? Do your memories come back as full length feature films (unedited by human emotion of course), or are they seemingly a series of snapshots of specific instances in your personal and/or emotional experience of consciousness as seen through time/space? How does your mind store information and experience from the past and how long is it truly accurate?

Further more, Einstein reminds us that experience is only relevant to the individual's point of observation. Mathematically this would indicate that for every moment in a space/time experience there is the possibly for an infinite number of observation points. Thus any hypothesis that is made, will in turn, be proven flawed by the experiences from other observation points in space/time. So in conclusion then, we can logically deduce that, any overall statements on life, the universe and everything are purely the product of a deranged imagination. (We Miss You Douglas) :)
